Additional flood assistance for Northern NSW and rental support applications open


IPWEA NSW and ACT support the most recent announcement by the NSW Government that additional funding for disaster recovery has been provided to a number of highly affected local government councils in Northern NSW.

More than $930 million of additional NSW Government support measures partly co-funded with the Australian Government have been announced for flood impacted areas of NSW. This is in addition to the almost $1 billion in emergency response and relief already provided. 

The additional support measures for individualsbusinessesprimary producers and local councils include: 

 
Individuals 
  • Extra Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payments of up to $2,000 for residents of Lismore, Ballina, Byron, Kyogle, Richmond Valley, Clarence Valley and Tweed.  
     
  • $142 million for a Property Assistance and Demolition Program to assess properties and demolish those found to be uninhabitable across disaster declared LGAs
Primary Producers 
  • $35 million for Rural Landholder Grants of up to $25,000 for impacted rural landholders, who are not currently eligible under existing support mechanisms, including insurance or special disaster assistance, and are able to demonstrate losses and damage beyond the vicinity of the residential dwelling. 
     
  • $150 million for a Primary Industry Support Package to assist primary producers to protect supply chains, and boost recovery and rebuilding efforts. This includes funding for Critical Producer Grants providing rapid support for significantly impacted primary producers.  

The new assistance package includes an extension of the Recovery Grants currently available for primary producers, small businesses, not-for profit-organisations and councils in further disaster declared LGAs.  

Local Councils 
  • A Local Council Support Package of $120 million to provide grants to impacted local councils to assist with urgent and medium-term financial and operational challenges. 
     
  • $145 million for the urgent repair and replacement of water and sewerage critical infrastructure capacity in the Northern Rivers disaster declared LGAs.
